Worked answer: For a $30 item with $7 shipping and a $5 cost, Depop leaves the most profit at $23.33 ($1.67 in fees), then Mercari at $21.30, Whatnot at $21.23, eBay at $19.57 and Poshmark at $19.00.

When eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, Whatnot or Depop changes a seller fee and we update the calculators, we send one short email saying what changed. Nothing else.

This table puts one sale through all five marketplace calculators on this site and ranks them by profit. It answers a narrow question: if the item sold for the same price everywhere, which platform's fees would leave you the most? It says nothing about how quickly the item would sell, what buyers on each app will pay, or who shops there. Those often matter more than a couple of dollars in fees.

Worked example: a $30 item with $7 shipping

A $30 item, $7 of shipping that the buyer pays and that exactly covers your label, $5 of cost, and no sales tax (the default). Each platform runs with its usual defaults:

The spread is $4.33 from top to bottom. Mercari and Whatnot are only seven cents apart, so at this price the choice between them comes down to where the item will actually sell.

Poshmark's row works differently. The buyer pays for Poshmark's own label, so the $7 you entered for shipping doesn't change its numbers. It isn't your money coming in, and it isn't your cost going out.

Worked example: a $120 item

Raise the price to $120, with $10 shipping and a $40 cost. The fixed parts of each fee now matter less, and the percentages decide the order:

The ranking is the same, but the gap has grown. Poshmark's 20% now takes $19.26 more than Depop's processing fee does, compared with $4.33 on the $30 item. On expensive pieces, Poshmark's flat 20% is the costliest option in this comparison by a wide margin.

Add a 7% sales tax and the three platforms that charge on tax move down a little. eBay's profit falls to $60.68, Whatnot's to $66.07 and Depop's to $74.96. Mercari and Poshmark don't charge their fee on tax, so theirs stay the same.

Reading the comparison fairly

The defaults don't tilt toward any platform, but they aren't everyone's situation. If you run a Basic eBay Store, sell in eBay categories with their own rates (sneakers, handbags, trading cards), have reached a higher Whatnot tier, or boost on Depop, the order can change. Set those under "Your seller settings" above and the table reprices. The one thing it doesn't take is an eBay promoted listing ad rate, which is set per listing: use the eBay fee calculator for a promoted sale. Each calculator uses the same fee rules as this table, so their results agree.

Also remember what each buyer sees. On Mercari the buyer pays a 3.6% protection fee on top of your price, and on Poshmark they pay for the label. Those don't come out of your pocket, but they change what the buyer pays.

For a starting point before you run a specific sale here — which platforms name a rate for your item's category, and the prices where that rate changes shape — see which platform to list on, by item and price.

How it's calculated

Each row runs the matching single-platform calculator. Shipping is treated as buyer-paid and equal to your label cost, except on Poshmark. Fees are rounded to the nearest cent (half a cent goes up) line by line, and the rows are sorted by profit. Not modeled here: store subscriptions, promoted listings and boosting, category-specific rates, Whatnot's tiers above Standard, insertion fees and cash-out fees.
