Whatnot replaced its flat per-category commission with a table of seven sales tiers across six verticals, effective September 21, 2026 for existing US sellers and September 28 for new ones. Your tier resets every 28 days from your own trailing sales.

Whatnot changed how it prices US sellers this month. Instead of one flat commission per category, the rate now depends on a rolling 28-day sales total, and it drops for any seller who clears the first threshold. This guide covers the table itself, how the rolling window works, when the change took effect, and — just as important — the three things about Whatnot's pricing that this site's calculator deliberately leaves out. None of what follows is written, reviewed or endorsed by Whatnot; it's built entirely from Whatnot's own published Help Center pages, and it isn't an official statement of Whatnot's policy.

The tier table

Your commission rate depends on two things: which vertical the sale falls in (the show's category for a live sale, the listing's category for a marketplace sale), and which tier your trailing 28-day sales total has unlocked. Tiers turn over at $15,000, $35,000, $50,000, $100,000, $250,000 and $500,000 in trailing 28-day sales. These are the current US rates:

Coins is the only vertical that starts under 8%, and it also has the lowest floor: 3.5% at $500,000 and up. Every other vertical opens at 8% and settles somewhere between 4% and 6.5% at the top tier. Run a category and tier through the Whatnot fee calculator to see the commission and processing fee together on a real sale.

The 28-day window

Your tier isn't fixed. It's recalculated every 28 days from your own sales, added up across every category and both live and marketplace formats. Cross a higher threshold partway through a period and the lower rate doesn't apply right away — it starts with your next 28-day period, once the current one closes out. Cancelled orders, private shows and local pickup sales are all subtracted from the total before a tier is set, so a return doesn't just cost the sale; it can also hold a seller a tier lower than their gross sales would suggest.

When the change took effect

The tiered structure replaced Whatnot's old flat per-category commission on September 21, 2026 for sellers who already had an account. Existing sellers' opening tier was calculated from sales between August 24 and September 20, so nobody started the new pricing at zero — the rate a seller saw on day one already reflected a real month of selling. Sellers who join Whatnot after that date are folded into the tiered structure a week later, on September 28, 2026.

Three things this site doesn't model

The Whatnot fee calculator works out the commission and payment processing on a sale using the table above, but three real Whatnot policies aren't in it, because the source pages don't give enough to model them cleanly alongside the new tiers.

The high-value promotion above $1,500. In a specific list of categories — comics, toys and hobbies, coins and money, trading card games, entertainment cards, sports singles, bags and accessories, and jewelry and watches — Whatnot drops the commission to 0% on the portion of an individual order's price above $1,500. It doesn't zero out the whole item, only the amount past that line, and it doesn't apply outside those categories. Whatnot calls it a limited-time promotion that it can end or change without notice, so it isn't built into the calculator's rates.

Sales tax on Whatnot's own fees. Whatnot's current rate table carries a footnote that its commission is charged plus applicable taxes on fees, meaning the commission itself, not just the sale, can be taxed on top of the posted rate. Whatnot's own page confirms only that this mechanism exists, not which states apply it — so this guide doesn't attempt a state list. The calculator's commission and processing figures don't add that extra layer, so a seller anywhere should double check whether their own state taxes marketplace fees before comparing the calculator's number to their actual statement.

The 10% Premier Shop discount, ending November 1. Through October 31, 2026, a Premier Shop seller's discount still applies on top of the new tiered rate — Whatnot's own example takes a 5% rate down to 4.5%. Starting November 1, that discount goes away entirely, and a Premier Shop seller's rate becomes whatever their sales tier sets, the same as any other seller. The badge, discoverability and support that come with Premier Shop status aren't changing, only the fee discount.
